Algerian Ambassador Attends Freshers’ Reception and Merit Awards Ceremony at the University of Dhaka

Dhaka, 12 October 2026 — H.E. Dr Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, attended the Freshers’ Reception, Farewell for Graduates, Scholarship Distribution and Meritorious Students’ Reception 2026, organized by the Department of Arabic at the University of Dhaka on Monday, 12 October, at the R.C. Mazumdar Arts Auditorium. He participated as Guest of Honour at the invitation of Professor Dr Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chairman of the Department of Arabic.

Addressing the gathering of faculty members, students, graduates and their families, Ambassador Saidani expressed his appreciation to the Department for the invitation, highlighting the importance of academic and cultural ties between Algeria and Bangladesh.

The Ambassador underscored the enduring significance of the Arabic language as a vehicle of cultural heritage, literature, knowledge and international communication. Spoken by more than 400 million people worldwide, Arabic continues to play an important role in contemporary academic, scientific and diplomatic exchanges.

He also highlighted Algeria’s commitment to promoting and modernizing the Arabic language through its national institutions, including the High Council for the Arabic Language (al-Majlis al-A‘la li-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah). He noted that Arabic language and literature are taught at more than 50 universities across Algeria, reflecting the country’s longstanding academic and cultural engagement with the language.

Ambassador Saidani emphasized the scope for strengthening academic cooperation and cultural exchanges between Algerian universities and the Department of Arabic at the University of Dhaka, particularly through institutional partnerships and closer engagement among scholars and students.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of scholarships and academic merit awards to outstanding students and graduates, recognizing their achievements and encouraging the next generation to pursue academic excellence and contribute positively to society.
